The brief
Take your time back: set limits per app, or one shared budget across a whole group of them.
Per-app limits miss how people actually overuse their phones: close Instagram, open TikTok, and the “limit” never fires.
What I built
An Arabic screen-time app for Android: set a daily limit on any app, or group apps together, all social media, all games, and give the whole group one shared budget that depletes across them. Streaks, daily usage breakdowns, and a hard block when the budget runs out.
One budget across a whole group
Group apps together, all social media, all games, and give the group one shared budget that depletes across them. Close Instagram, open TikTok: the clock keeps counting.
Limits per app, when that fits
Classic per-app daily limits with streaks and a daily usage breakdown: time saved is shown, not guessed.
A block that means it
When the budget runs out the block is hard: backed by usage-access and overlay permissions and a monitoring service that survives Android battery optimisation.
The hard part
Shared budgets across an app group: the limit applies to the group, not each app, so time spent in one depletes the others. That needs usage-access and overlay permissions, and a monitoring service that survives Android’s battery optimisation.
The result
One budget across a whole category of apps: spend it in one, and it’s gone in all of them.
One budget across a whole category of apps.
Spend it in one, and it's gone in all of them.
A hard block when the budget runs out.
